August 2010 film updates

Not the best Shrek film but no bad film either.

L'amour, c'est mieux à deux. Another mediocre film, though there were some good laughs. Not a film one want to see again and again. This in spite of the participation one of our favourite actors Clovis C0rnillac.

Toy Story 3

I (Aurore) realize that the blog hasn't been updated for a fortnight and feel a bit ashamed for this.
Just to mention that we watched Toy Story 3 and were very enchanted by this film.
The best part was the the guest star of Totoro as a cudly toy.

Homage to Charlie Chaplin. La Châtre and Sainte-Sévère. François Ede, Pierdel and Nicolas Ribowski

At Cinéma Lux in La Châtre the event for the evening (6th of August) is a seance dedicated to Charlie Chaplin and three of his movies: 'The Tramp' ('Le Vagabond', 1915); 'A Night in the Show' ('Charlot au Music-Hall', 1915) and 'The Circus' ('Le Cirque', 1928).
Aurore and I went there of course.
In order to animate the evening and inform the visitors about the background and making of these films, they had invited François Ede (membre du Conservatoire des techniques cinématographiques de la Cinémathèque française), a French cinematographer and specialist in the films of Chaplin, among other subjects.

Below some pictures from the evening:

The entrance hall at Cinéma Lux, looking like a church,
which is not surprising as this building earlier has been a convent

...and the Madonna and her son protecting us from evil?

As you can see there were quite a
number of visitors...
...and I found something to drink:

The day after there were two screenings in Sainte- Sévère - where we find Maison de jour de fête, the museum over Jacques Tati and his making of the film 'Jour de fête'; 'The Immigrant' (1917) and a documentary made by François Ede: 'Charlot aujourd'hui: le cirque' ('Charlie Today: The Circus').
The latter telling the story about the making of this film.

...and to the left below we see
André Delepierre, also known as
Pierdel, working with Tati as
'property master' in 'Jour de fête',
'Les vacances de monsieur Hulot' and
'Playtime'. He has also worked with
films as 'Borsalino' and 'Peur sur la ville'.
A man with a lot of interesting stories
to tell concerning not least the work
with Tati!
In the photo below right we see
Nicolas Ribowski,director and assistant
director to Tati in making 'Playtime',
a man full of stories and a very good animator,
questioning Ede concerning his documentary.

In the photo below Ede and Ribowski
in an animated discussion:

The inner courtyard and garden of Solange and its flowers, summer 2010

These are pictures from the inner courtyard and garden belonging to my mother-in-law.
She also runs a Bed and Breakfast (chambres d'hôtes) with two appartments (see link).
