The Kite Runner/Flyga Drake

...Or the art of ruining a film with its soundtrack.

The film is an adaptation of a best seller (Khaled Hosseini), director Marc Forster.

It takes us to the Middle East where yesterday's cowardness must be erased by today's courage.

The story is predictable and even if this is a "nice movie", the music kills every attempt to move us.

It is already hard to feel empathy for 'adult Amir', but with this noisy soundtrack, it becomes worse.

The young Amir, and especially the young Hassan (Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada) are definitely the best actors and their performance deserves the audience's attention.

1968

Ikväll börjar Maj-68-serien på Franska filmfestivalen, där vi visar filmer som anknyter till majrevolterna i Paris 1968.

Första filmen ut var egentligen den som visades redan 10 maj, Milou en mai med Dominique Blanc i en av rollerna.

Ikväll visas Les amants reguliers av Philippe Garrel i vilken sonen Louis Garrel debuterade och kan sägas ha fått sitt genombrott som skådespelare.

Le scaphandre et le papillon. Julian Schnabel

Ikväll visas Julian Schnabels film som bygger på den självbiografi som tidningen Elle's redaktör Bauby, skrev efter att han drabbats av en stroke.

Vi får 'följa/känna hans känslor' då han inser att han är totalt förlamad och endast kan använda ett öga att kommunicera med.

En gripande historia som förmedlar de många gånger klaustrofobiska känslor som följde i kölvattnet av hans totala hjälplöshet och beroende av andra för att, bokstavligen, 'nå ut'.

Fantastiskt skådespel av Mathieu Amalric i rollen som Bauby.

Notera också kamerans arbete, där Bauby initialt har blickarna riktade mot sig på ett sätt som markant skiljer sig från de blickar som riktar sig mot honom efter att ha drabbats av förlamning.

Tonight one screen Julian Schnabel's film, being an adaptation of the autobiography by the editor of Elle - Bauby - one he wrote after having been afflicted by a stroke.

We get to 'follow/feel' his feelings when he realizes that he is totally paralyzed, only able to use one eye to communicate with.

A touching story that conveys the often claustrophobic feelings, following in the wake of his complete helplessness and dependence on others in order to, literally, 'reach out'.

Great performance by Mathieu Amalric in the role as Bauby.

Notice the camera work, where Bauby initially has 'the eyes aimed at him' in a way, distinctly diverging from the way people seem to look at him after his stroke.

Filmen 'Un secret' ('En hemlighet') är regisserad av Claude Miller som kan sägas vara en veteran född 1942.

Han har arbetat som assistent åt regissörer som Robert Bresson och Jean-Luc Godard även om hans främste mentor anses ha varit Francois Truffaut.

I denna film får vi sen den unge huvudpersonen François (Mathieu Amalric i rollen som den vuxne François) , både som sjuåring, fjortonåring och vuxen.

Han har under hela sin uppväxt idealiserat sin familj och relationerna mellan familjemedlemmarna. Då han är femton år gammal uppdagas dock sådant som han tidigare inte vetat om sin familj. Den bild han tidigare gjort sig av fadern och modern krackelerar.

This film - 'Un secret' ('A secret') - is directed by Claude Miller who can be said to be a veteran, born 1942.

He has worked as assistant for directors as Robert Bresson and Jean-Luc Godard even though his foremost mentor is said to have been Francois Truffaut.

In this film we get to meet the young main character François at both age seven, fourteen and as a grown up (Mathieu Amalric in the role as the grown up François).

He has during his growth idealized his family and the relations between the members of the family. When he is fifteen years old, things he didn't know about his family is revealed. The image he made of his father and mother slowly crackles.

Capitaine Achab - French Film festival: Première!

Premiärkväll för Franska filmfestivalen i Stockholm som i år firar sitt 10-årsjubileum!

Premiär även för huvudfilmen under festivalen, 'Capitaine Ahab'/'Kapten Ahab' av Philippe Ramos med bl.a. Dominique Blanc och Denis Lavant i rollerna.

Denna film är löst byggd på Herman Melvilles roman 'Moby Dick'.

Den tar i fem tablåer upp den blivande kaptenens möten med människor vilka kommit att betyda mycket för honom under uppväxten och som till del kanske bidrog till att forma honom till den han kom att bli.

Denis Lavant är utmärkt i rollen som den vuxne kaptenen men även Virgil Leclaire som den unge Ahab är strålande.

Dominique Blanc spelar rollen som Anna, den kvinna som tar hand om Ahab efter att han skadat sig så allvarligt att han nästintill dör. Anna blir kär i denne - i jämförelse med de män hon tidigare mött - i många stycken så avvikande man. Blanc är - som vanligt dristas man säga - utmärkt i sin rolltolkning.

Detta är ingen 'actionfilm' utan ett auteurstycke som förhållandevis stillsamt berättar historien om kaptenen som genom sin besatthet av den vita valen riskerar både sitt eget och andra människors liv.

Première night for The French Filmfestival in Stockholm, celebrating its 10th anniversary!

Première also for the main film of the festival, namely 'Capitaine Ahab'/'Captaine Ahab' by Philippe Ramos with among others Dominique Blanc and Denis Lavant in the leading roles.

This film is losely built on Herman Melvilles' novel 'Moby Dick'.

In five tableaus it shows the future captains' encounters with people who meant a lot to him during his growth and upbringing, people who maybe contributed to shape him into the person he late became.

Denis Lavant is excellent in the role as the adult captain but also Virgil Leclaire as the young Ahab is brilliant.

Dominique Blanc is playing the role of Anna, the woman who takes care of Ahab after he's been badly injured and almost is dying. Anna falls in love with him, not least as he is very different compared to other men she previously met. Blanc is - as always one are inclined to say - superb in her role interpretation.

This is not an 'action movie' but an auteur film that relatively quietly tells the story about the captain who through his obsession with the white whale jeopardize both his own life and the life of other people.
