Notre premier jour à Stockholm. Our first day in Stockholm

After the fact that the airline company  SAS had ruined our first day in Stockholm, we arrived at my cousins Helena's home at 10.30 pm instead of of 7 pm as planned.

There were some "technical problems"according to SAS but the worst thing was that there were no 'spontaneous' information concerning the changes of departures. We were forced to ask the personnel all the time, again and again.
At first they told us that there was a plane for us departing at 5.40 pm, thereafter 6pm, thereafter 6.25 pm and finally 8.30 pm!!

Because of this we missed a rendez-vous with Helena's daughter Tove and also a dinner with friends at a restaurant, a dinner scheduled for 8 pm.

Otherwise, we succeeded in go through with our planning our first day (Friday): First a meeting with friends (in the suburb Nacka) who recently became parents. We had bought a present called 'Sophie' (a rubber giraffe making sounds and almost indestructible) and we ate brunch with them.

After this, the Opera House in Stockholm and a meeting with a choir singer, who had invited us to a guided visit behind the stages and coulisses. Very nice of him and also very interesting, not least with all the stories he had to tell about 'the house'!
We continued to a seminar on "Wagner and the Cinema" and after that the opera 'Parsifal, 5 1/2 hours!
We were however extremely satisfied with the opera performance, the staging, the singers (most of them), the orchestra and the choir!

After the opera we were invited to dine with a friend at her apartment and she had made a dinner for 10 persons!! It was very nice to meet her again however and it's now three years ago the last time.

We came back to my cousins home at about midnight but she was still awake, and with her husband Mikael she was in the act of eating shrimps and drinking a Chardonnay, so we had to sacrifice ourselves, joining them!

Tour Nordique: Oslo le 10 octobre, Edvard Munch, le Prix Nobel du Paix

Français (English below and/et photos):

After Göteborg we continued to Oslo, Norway and as our first destination we had chosen the Munch Museum.
We are this year celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of this Norwegian painter, to most people known through his painting 'The Scream' but who was very important being the link between Impressionism and Symbolism.
We have seen quite a number of exhibitions with Munch; in Sweden at the Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Museet) in Stockholm where they had a retrospective with works by Munch a couple of years ago, then at the Thiel Gallery (Thielska Galleriet), Stockholm with one of the biggest collections of Munch outside Norway and finally at Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2011. This last exhibition was more dedicated Munch the photographer and 'director'.
At the Munch Museum we found paintings we've never seen before and explications around them putting them in an interesting light but we above all discovered the monumental paintings, never shown outside the museum in my opinion.

In the evening we met our friend Audrey, who works at the Museum of Fine Arts (Nationalmuseum) in Stockholm but who, by chance, was in Oslo at the same time as us with the organisation 'The Friends of the Museum'.
We ate together, a typical Norwegian dish: Sushi!

Notre Tour Nordique. Our Nordic Tour: Göteborg, Michael Engberg, Billy Budd et Peter Mattei

Francais (English and photos below):

English (photos below):

We started our tour in the North by visiting Göteborg (Gothenburg), the second largest town in Sweden.
When arriving at the hotel, the hotel porter said to us: "As a matter of fact, our suite is free, you can have that one for the same price as your ordinary room, if you like!?" If you insist sir! No, we didn't say that but...

After this we met with my friend Michael Engberg. We have been friends since the age of 13 but now it's more than thirty years(!) since we last saw each other. He works as an actor and director in The Theater of the West Coast around Göteborg.
We shared the interests in theater, opera and film when we were young but also tennis.

After having eaten in a restaurant with him, we continued to the Opera House in Göteborg in order to look at 'Billy Budd' by Benjamin Britten with one of our favourite singers, Peter Mattei. But this evening we also discovered the singer (bass) Clive Bayely, an Englisman I didn't know about, and neither did Aurore. He was at least as good as Mattei and perhaps the best singer this evening.
The staging was fantastic and the choir and orchestra too. The only problem - as so often - was the tenors!
