The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Idag är det Aurores styvfar, Michel's, födelsedag. Aurore ringer och gratulerar och jag sjunger i bakgrunden men vet inte om det uppskattas av jubilaren? Skall fråga vid tillfälle.
Han är lika ung som jag! Michel har en tvillingbror och tänka sig: Även han fyller år idag!

Aurore's moster Jeanne fyller ävenledes hon år och gratuleras självfallet!

En stor del av dagen ägnar vi åt att skriva, läsa och lyssna på musik!

Efter tre på eftermiddagen beger vi oss till stan för att dels dricka kaffe någonstans dels se fartygen samlade i samband med Tall Ships Race.
Dock är det i city så många människor att vi dels får ägna nästan en timme åt att hitta ett café och när vi väl gör det hamnar vi bredvid toaletten på sagda café där människor står och köar och mysigare kan det ju faktiskt bli!

Irriterade över alla människor (man undrar varför de skall vara ute samtidigt som vi?), beger vi oss efter att ha sett en del av fartygen, hem igen med ett stopp vid Gullmarsplan där vi handlar vid de utestånd som finns på torget.

Väl hemma blir det senare middag och kvällen avslutas med William Dieterle's filmatisering av Victor Hugo roman 'Notre Dame de Paris' som i filmisk form fått titeln 'Ringaren i Notre Dame' (eller egentligen: 'Puckelryggen i Notre Dame', som det engelska originalet utttyds).

Denna filmatisering från 1939 har Charles Laughton i huvudrollen som ringaren - Quasimodo - samt Maureen O'Hara som Esmeralda.

En underbar filmatisering där inte minst Laughton's rollgestaltning är fantastisk och han lyckas undvika att skapa en figur som endast är en karikatyr på en människa där det bisarra, med en felaktig approach, skulle komma att framhävas.

Today it's Aurore's step father Michel's birthday. Aurore calls him and congratulate him while I sing in the background even though I don't know if he appriciated it? I will ask him at some occasion. He is as young as I am! He has a twin brother and strangely enough it's his birthday too!

Aurores aunt Jeanne is also celebrating her birthday today and Aurore congratulate her too of course!

A great part of the day we spend writing, reading and listening to music!

After three o'clock in the afternoon we head of to city partly to drink a cup of coffee at some café and partly to look at all the ships gathered during Tall Ships Race.

However, there are so many people in town that it takes us an hour to find a café and when we do find one we get some seats near the toilet where people are queuing and it could have been more cosy than that!

Irritated by all the people (one wonders why they have to be in town at the same time as us?), we head of home after seing some of the ships.

We stop at Gullmarsplan where we do some shoping at one of the market stalls at the square, mostly vegetables, of course.

Home again we dine and the evening ends with Wiliam Dieterles adaption for the screen of Victor Hugos novel 'Notre Dame de Paris' that as a film have become 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame'.

This film from 1939 with Charles Laughton in the leading role as the hunchback - Quasimodo - and Maureen O'Hara as Esmeralda is a wonderful adaption where not least Laughtons interpretation is fantastic not least because he succeeds in avoiding creating a character that only is caricature of a man where the bizarre, with another approach, could have been highlighted.
