Fick för en stund sedan (12.00), av Aurore, information om att Ingmar Bergman är död.

För de som läser denna blogg är det väl överflödigt att presentera Ingmar Bergman mer än att säga att en av 1900-talets mest framstående svenska regissörer tillika kanske en av 1900-talets internationellt främsta regissörer gått ur tiden.

Han var inte den första regissören som försökte och lyckades få filmen att bli betraktad som en konstform likvärdig litteratur, musik och andra kontnärliga uttryck som tidigare ansetts ha ett 'högre' konstnärligt värde.

Däremot kanske han var den regissör i Sverige som lyckades befästa denna filmens ställning.

Detta inte minst genom att han var en sann intellektuell som i sina filmer gav uttryck för djupa intellektuella resonemang, parat med etiska frågeställningar i kombination med ett personligt, estetiskt uttryck av hög kvalitet.

Nu kanske man i Sverige äntligen uppmärksammar Bergman efter förtjänst så som man gjorde med Vilgot Sjöman efter dennes död. Tråkigt bara att viktiga kulturpersoner skall dö innan man inser deras storhet i detta land!

A couple of minutes ago I received the information that Ingmar Bergman is dead (Aurore told me).

For those of you reading this blog, it's superfluous to introduce Ingmar Bergman more than to say that one of the most prominent Swedish directors of this century has passed away. One could even say one of the most prominent directors of this century even from an international point of view.

He was not the first Swedish director who tried and succeeded making film being regarded as an art form equal to litterature, music and other artistic expressions but maybe the one who succeeded in securing this position for film in Sweden.

This not least because he was a true intellectual who in his films formulated deep intellectual thoughts combined with ethical questions and a personal aesthetical expression of high quality.

Now maybe one will pay more attention in Sweden to Ingmar Bergman as one did after the death of Vilgot Sjöman for example.

A pity though that important persons within the cultural sphere have to die before one recognize their greatness in this country!
