Tales from the Gimli Hospital

Filmhuset för Aurore och mig samt efter detta bio Sture och filmerna av Guy Maddin;
'Tales from the Gimli Hospital' och 'The Dead Father'.

Jag tänker inte gå in i detalj på Maddins filmer men för dem av er som är eller anser er vara cineaster eller cinefiler (ej pop corn-ätare), vill jag verkigen rekommendera denna originella filmmakare som skapar sina filmer som en form av stumfilmer vad gäller det filmtekniska, med det viktiga undantaget att man har en talad dialog.

De är estetiskt vackra (självfallet ett subjektivt omdöme) och berättelserna tenderar att vara utformade som sagor där dåtid och realtid varvas. Länkarna ovan till Maddin och information via IMDb kan ni ta del av men fr.a: Se någon av hans filmer. Jag tror ni blir fascinerade!

Efter dessa en annan personlig regissör, nämligen Robert Altman och hans film 'Fool for Love' om May, spelad av Kim Basinger, som väntar på sin pojkvän i ett nedslitet motell. Pojkvännen spelas utmärkt av Sam Shepard.

Det hela utvecklas till ett triangeldrama mellan dessa båda och en man som bor i en intilliggande husvagn, mannen spelad av Harry Dean Stanton.

I rollen som 'bisittare', försmådd kavaljer och åskådare till detta stundtals våldsamma drama ser vi Randy Quaid.

First of all a visit to The Swedish Filminstitute and after this in the afternoon two films by Guy Maddin at cinema Sture; 'Tales from the Gimli Hospital'+'The Dead Father'.

I am not going in to details concerning these movies but I would recommend all of you, not having seen a film by Maddin, to do so.
This of course if you are more of a cinephile (not pop corn eaters) and not just interested in American films with traditionally told stories in a linear style.

These films are made in a way that resembles silent movies with the exception that they are not silent. Aesthetically beautiful in my opinion.
The stories - at least in these two films - are more like 'sagas'/tales, in a contemporary setting.

The second or third film today is 'Fool for Love' by Robert Altman with Kim Basinger, Sam Shepard, Harry Dean Stanton in the leading rôles.

This is a domestic triangle, beginning with a woman and a man being former lovers. He (Shepard) finds his 'love' (Basinger) in a run-down American motel and there love (and emotions of hate?) is once again evoked.

It develops into a triangle drama when an old man - Stanton - living on the premises in a caravan (trailer) interferes.
As a spurned suitor and 'spectator' to this partly violent settlement between the three above mentioned, we see Randy Quaid.
