Idag bestämmer vi oss för att äntligen - efter sju sorger och åtta bedrövelser - besöka Magasin 3 i Frihamnen.
Jag måste i sammanhanget erkänna att jag aldrig - trots att jag är född och uppvuxen samt bott merparten av mitt drygt 46-åriga liv i Stockholm - besökt denna utställningshall. Kan bero på att jag bott i andra delar av Stockholm och ej särskilt nära just denna utställningshall men det är väl endast en dålig ursäkt.
Vi började titta på utställningen men vi hann endast en liten del av denna och denna gång inte Pipilotti Rist
och Gilbert & George's arbeten.
Det vi såg var en utställning i blandmaterial vilken belyser problemen i Mellanöstern, en utställning med namnet 'Fleeing away from what bothers you most'.
Denna utställning innehöll foto, film, skulptur och måleri av konstnärer som är eller har varit verksamma i israeliska och palestinska regioner.
Konstnärernas namn: Jumana Emil Abboud, David Perlov, Raeda Saadeh, Gil Marco Shani, Jan Tichy, Jean-Luc Vilmouth (klicka här eller på deras namn för information om konstnärerna)
Meningen med denna utställning är att lyfta fram konstnärer som har en förmåga att omvandla omständigheterna i den region där de lever och verkar eller levt och verkat - Mellersta Östern - till något imaginärt och abstrakt med konstnärliga kvaliteter.
Många av konstnärerna har, trots närheten till denna konfliktfylda del av världen, valt ett icke-politiskt förhållningssätt, där man undvikit att direkt kommentera de händelser som kommit att bli en del av den nästintill dagliga nyhetsrapporteringen från Israel-Palestina och deras grannar.
Själva titeln hänvisar till det förhållningssätt och detta utgör också länken mellan konstnärsskapen.
Vi kände oss dock inte riktigt övertygad om sambandet mellan idé och förverkligande även om vi fann en del intressanta utryck för konstnärernas tankar kring 'flykten' som ett medel att klara verklighetens problem och grymheter. I detta fanns också tankar om att inte endast ge en ensidig bild av verkligheten vilken - som vi vet - alltid är mer mångfacetterad än exempelvis medierna vill få oss att tro.
Efter Magasin 3 beger vi oss - Aurore och jag - till Moderna museet för en presentation och visning av en film med namnet '9 evenings: theatre and engineering', ett antal synnerligen omtalade föreställningar som ägde rum i New York 1966.
Det är Barbro Schultz Lundestam, journalist, bokförläggare och filmare som var med vid dessa events som berättar och visar de i denna kväll presenterade filmerna.
I dessa föreställningar eller happenings samarbetade tio konstnärer med ett drygt trettiotal ingenjörer från Bell Telephone Laboratories i en konst- och teknologimaniftestation
De tio konstnärerna var John Cage ,
och Robert Whitman
Händelsen resulterade i att allt fler konstnärer ville få tillgång till de allra senaste teknologiska innovationerna och detta intresse kanaliserades in i den nybildade organisationen Experiments in Art and Technology , E.A.T. i vilken organisation Billy Klüver
varit en drivande kraft. Inte många i Sverige känner till Billy Klüver medan han i utlandet och bland experimenterande konstnärer är ett stort och erkänt namn.
De filmer som presenteras är Robert Rauschenbergs föreställning 'Open Score', John Cages föreställning 'Variations VII' och Öyvind Fahlströms föreställning 'Kisses Sweeter than Wine'.
Vad man kan konstatera är att det känns som om det fanns så otroligt mycket mer idéer under denna experimentella tid, 1960-och 70-talet. Alla dessa idéer och genomförandet av desamma är inte alltid att anse som lyckade men det fanns dock en stark vilja att bryta ny mark. Kanske beror det på att man betraktar allt detta i retrospektiv där historien lärt oss vikten av dessa verk? Intressant var det dock.

Today Aurore and I finally decided us to visit what in English would be called 'Storehouse 3' ('Magasin 3' ), an art museum that started its activities in 1987.
I have to admit that, though I am born and raised in Stockholm and lived most of my life here, I have never visited this museum before. It's a shame.
We started watching the exhibition but the time didn't permit us reaching the art works by Pipilotti Rist and Gilbert & George.
What we saw was an exhibition called 'Fleeing away from what bothers you most' and this is exactly what these artists tried to do.
It's a group of artists living in the Middle East, in Israel, Palestine and neighbouring countries who in their art indirectly tries to reflect the events in their part of the worl and their names are: Jumana Emil Abboud, David Perlov, Raeda Saadeh, Gil Marco Shani, Jan Tichy, Jean-Luc Vilmouth (Click here or on their names for information about the artists).
They use photo, film, sculpture and painting.
The purpose with this exhibition is to point out artists that are able to transform the circumstances in the region where they live into something imaginary and abstract with artistic qualities. Many of the artists have chosen a non-political approach where they avoid directly commenting on the events in Palestine-Israel, events that, since decades, have become a part of a collective image of this region in the world.
The title of this exhibition refer to this approach of course.
We did not however feel fully convinced about the connection between idea and realisation even though we found some very interesting expressions for the thoughts around the excape as a means to cope with the problems and atrocities of daily life. The artists maybe also wanted to mediate thoughts around the idea of not giving a to biased picture of reality, as the latter always is more complexed than - among others- the media wants us to believe.
Next stop this day: Museum of Modern Art and a presentation and display of a film with the name '9 evenings: theatre and engineering' (no information in English on this subject unfortunately), a group of very talked about performances that toke place in New York in 1966. It is Barbro Schultz Lundestam, journalist, editor and film maker (Could not find much information in English about her as the site on The Museum of Modern Art where no longer available in English when I wrote this a couple of days after the event. In these renowned happenings ten artists cooperated with around thirty engineers from Bell Telephone Laboratories in a art- and technology manifestation.

This event led to more and more artists wanting to get axess to the latest technological innovations and this interest were channeled through the newly established organisation 'Experiments in Art and Technology' , E.A.T. in which Billy Klüver was a driving force. Not many people in Sweden know about Billy Klüver (though he is Swedish) while he abroad among experimenting artists is a well known and recognized and highly respected person.
The movies we saw where Robert Rauschenberg's performance 'Open Score', 'Variations VII' by John Cage and 'Kisses sweater than Wine' by Öyvind Fahlström.
What one can state, in our opinion, is that it feels as if there were so much more creativity, so many ideas coming up to the surface and displayed during the 1960's and -70's. All the ideas and, not least, the realization of them where not always succesful but yet it existed a strong will to break new grounds. Maybe this notion is because we now look upon this period in retrospective with everything history has taught us. Interesting it is though.
