Aurore och jag hänger oss åt Jean Renoir idag.

'Korpralen' (länk till SFI för samma film) är en film om en överklass-korpral från Paris som tillfångatas av tyskarna då de invaderar Frankrike 1940.

Assisterad av en samling olikartade individer, en butter mjölkbonde, en hovmästare/servitör, en närsynt intellektuell, en parisare från arbetarklassbakgrund, en tysk kvinnlig tandsköterska, försöker han vid otaliga tillfällen fly.

Ibland når han endast några meter ibland når han franska gränsen.

Till slut lyckas han dock i sitt uppsåt efter att så många gånger misslyckats att man till slut finner det ganska komiskt.
Inte minst då rymningsförsöken ibland fallerar på rent löjliga misstag begångna av honom själv eller någon i hans omgivning.

Man får också en inblick i hur skillnader mellan olika samhällsklasser till del vid denna tid fortfarande upprätthölls, även i krig.
Samtidigt suddas oundvikligen de sociala barriärerna mer eller mindre ut då alla är beroende av varandra för att överleva eller som i detta fall lyckas fly.

Även vissa individers undfallenhet mot ockupationsmakten speglas och hur man genom att mer eller mindre agera överlöpare, genom denna taktik lyckas överleva.
I andra fall fortsätter motståndet mot tyskarna, antingen direkt eller indirekt.

Today it's Jean Renoir we focus on, Aurore and I.

The film 'The Elusive Corporal' (US title) or 'The Vanishing Corporal' (UK title) tells the story about an upper-class corporal from Paris who is captured by the Germans in connection to their invasion of France in 1940.

Assisted and accompanied by characters from different parts of society he constantly tries to flee.

In the camp he meets people he generally never associates with as a civilian.
There is a sullen dairy farmer, a waiter, an intellectual, a working-class Parisian and a female German dental assistant.
All these people tries to cooperate though they never would work together or even be acquainted in the civil life.

This is of course quite natural during circumstances like this (and one might wonder why it has to be that way).

The working class Parisian ones ask the Corporal if he believes that they will ever meet and spend some time with each other when they come back to Paris as liberated. The Corporal gives him an affirmative answer but in the end.....?

Sometimes it gets quite comical when they try to escape so often in a badly considered way, being captured and apprehended after only a couple of meters or more.
Sometimes they reach the border.

I liked the film very much, not least due to the characters and their human faults.
