Arkivens dag

Svenska (English below):

Idag är det i Stockholm - och hela Sverige - 'Arkivens dag' där olika arkiv vid museer och andra institutioner är öppna för allmänheten.
Temat för dagen var mat och hur detta återspeglas i samlingarna.
Aurore och jag valde Postmuseum som vi ej besökt tillsammans tidigare.
Jag kan inte påstå att utställningen med arkivmaterial var särskilt imponerande dock.
Ett stort bord i ett rum med vykort, och andra utensilier som belyste hur maträtter, mathögtider, ätande i alla former belysts genom åren.
Dock inga frimärken som visade detta tema. Underligt med tanke på alla kända duktiga gravörer vi haft och har i Sverige som skildrat många olika motivkretsar på sina konstverk, som dessa frimärken många gånger är att betrakta som.

The theme of this day - 'The Day of the Archives' - where museums and other institutions open up their archives for the public, was food and how it is depicted in the collections.
We decided to choose the Postmuseum in the Old Town.

Heart of Spain & Native Land & Uppenbar(a)t

Heart of Spain' is a documentary from the Civil War in Spain in 1936, made by Herbert Kline and Charles Korvin.

It's made by directors in an organization of left-wing filmmakers in America.
It is also a film that shows the nazi- and fascist-followers work in Spain during the 1930:s.

This film has later been used as a evidence for the fact that the world - if one doesn't turn a blind eye to obvious proof - knew much more about the atrocities during and before World War II than later have been admitted.

'Native Land' made by Leo Hurwitz and Paul Strand deals with the civil rights movement and it's struggle in the USA.
It also displays the fascist right wing movements and KKK and their 'work'.

Mixing documentary stories with fictional and with the famous singer Paul Robeson ('Old Man River'/The Show Boat) it tries to expose the violations against civil liberties in USA during the 30's and 40's.

The film and many of those who participated where blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

After this the exhibition 'Uppenbar(a)t' ('Revealed') on the Culture House. This is an exhibition with photographs from the late 1900's till recent days trying to - in different ways, angles and from different ideological perspectives - depict one of the most famous people in the world, JESUS.

Le crime de Monsieur Lange

Svenska (English below):

'Sally och friheten' av Gunnel Lindblom är en film om en kvinnas självständighetsideal och hur dessa krockar med andra människors ideal i hennes omgivning - inte minst föräldrarnas och hennes man.

Hon vill överge den traditionella könsfördelningen i ett förhållande och mer agera som män genom historien oftast ogenerat gjort i förhållande till sin partner.

'Le crime de Monsieur Lange' ('Herr Langes brott') - Jean Renoir - är en film om klasskamp under 1930-talet i Frankrike och de upplopp som skedde 6 februari 1934.

I denna film utnyttjar en tidningsägare - herr Batala (Jules Berry) - sina anställda på ett sätt som leder till uppror mot hans diktatoriska välde och hans cynism.

Efter en olycka då man tror att Batala omkommit, tar man över tidningen och skapar ett kooperativ.
Batala har dock inte dött utan stulit kläder från en död präst i vilken han tar sig runt i landet och utnyttjar människors katolska tro och tilltro till präster för att skaffa sig fördelar.

Han återkommer till tidningen och försöker ta över densamma ånyo.

English:

'Sally och friheten' ('Sally and the Freedom') is a film about freedom from traditional gender roles in a relationship.
A woman - Sally (Ewa Fröling) - wants to be free and 'create' her own life on the basis of her personal wishes. Something men almost always have done in a relationship but in this case people in her immediate surroundings react negatively. Not at least her parents.

'Le crime de monsieur Lange', a film about a editor of a newspaper - mister Batala (Jules Berry) - who with a cynical attitude exploit people in his surrounding, not least women.
This is during the struggle between the social classes in France in the 1930:s.

After a accident where he is reported dead, the workers and journalists takes control over their newspaper.

Mister Batala is however not dead and with clothes he has stolen from a dead clergy man, he finds his way back to the newspaper, again exploiting peoples beliefs and trust in the clergy.

The House is Black

The first film at Cinemateket is 'Jigokumon' ('Gate of Hell') by Teinosuke Kinugasa.

This is in the end a film about a woman who sacrifies herself for love and fidelity towards her husband.

During an attempted coup somewhere in Japan in 1159, during the feudal time, one of the court's ladies disguises herself as the lord's wife and a loyal samurai takes her away from the city in order to foul the attackers.
He falls in love with her and when the lord resumes power the samurai and other loyal people at the court are granted their wishes.

Most of the samurais wants land and property but this one want's the woman who disguised herself as the lord's wife. The problem is that she is married.
The samurai can not accept this and when the lord ask him to suggest something else instead of this woman, the samurai points out that the lord always have to keep his promises.

The samurai now tries to win the heart of the married woman and to outmanoeuvre the husband.

Will he succeed?

It's a film that displays some kind of disobiedience I didn't think was possible in the feudal structure of 12th century Japan.

The second film by Forough Farrokhzad - 'Khaneh siah ast' ('The House is Black') - is a moving documentary about people struck by leper living in a leper colony.

This film show the strong will to survive and in spite of great difficulties find friendship and love among other people.

The film was followed up by a documentary about Farrokhzad, a well known and cherished poet in Iran who died very young at the age of 32 in a car accident.

The name of this documentary was 'Jam-e jan' ('The Mirror of the Soul').
