Giverny, Versailles, Fontainebleau et Barbizon

Pour la première fois dans ma (Gunnar) vie, j'ai visité la maison de Claude Monet à Giverny, le Château de Versailles et le Château de Fontainebleau. 

Quand nous étions à Paris la première fois en 2006, Aurore et moi, nous n'avons pas eu le temps de visiter Versailles et non plus les occasions après mais maintenant ! Aurore a déjà visité le Château de Versailles mais pas les autres sites.

Cette fois nous étions trois personnes; Aurore et moi et ma belle- mère. 

Comme ce n'était pas pendant la haute-saison, nous n'avons pas été obligé d'attendre beaucoup avant rentrer, que 5-10 minutes ! Même à Versailles !

Il y avait des touristes mais pas comme pendant l'été bien sûr. Des japonais surtout mais également des américains, des anglais, des allemands, des néerlandais et des chinois. Par contre, nous n'avons pas rencontré de scandinaves.

Nous avons resté 7 heures et demi à Versailles et nous avons fait environ 30 km de balade !

Vernissage Rue Nationale 176 Rolande Labesse, Emilie van Herreweghe et un troisième artiste. 
Rolande Labesse est une artiste que nous connaissons depuis 2012, quand elle a exposé au Musée des Racines à Thevet Saint-Julien quand, moi Gunnar, étais responsable pour le musée, les visites guidées et les expositions temporaires.

Cet après-midi au Cinéma Lux, La Châtre, il y avait une projection du documentaire de Matthieu Chatellier, Voir ce que devient l'ombre, qui raconte l'histoire de la vie de Fred Deux et Cécile Reims, deux artistes mondialement connus qui se sont installés à La Châtre en 1987.

Pierre Wat, l'historien d'art a également participé.

Pour citer le texte du DVD que nous avons acheté :

"Fred Deux et Cécile Reims sont deux artistes majeurs ayant traversé le siècle et croisé les plus grands noms de l'art et de la littérature. Rescapés des démons et de la folie de la 2ème Guerre Mondiale, ils portent à jamais dans leur œuvre cette ombre indélébile, avec une inépuisable puissance créatrice." 

Fred Deux est décédé le 09 septembre 2015 mais Cécile Reims est toujours en vie et elle était présente pendant la projection.

Je ne sais pas si la ville de La Châtre comprend tout à fait l'importance d'avoir ces deux artistes si renommés dans sa ville mais c'est en tout cas deux vies très intéressantes et deux artistes uniques en leur genre.

This evening, at Cinéma Lux in La Châtre, there was a screening of a documentary made my Matthieu Chatellier, Voir ce que devient l'ombre, telling the story of the life of Fred Deux and Cécile Reims, two world known artists who moved to La Châtre in 1987.

To cite the text of the DVD we have bought:

"Fred Deux and Cécile Reims are two major artists having lived through the century and having met the biggest names within art and literature. Survivors of the madness of the Second World War,they carry forever in their art works this indelible shadow with an inexhaustible creational power." 

Fred Deux passed away the 9th of September 2015 but Cécile Reims is still alive and she was present during the screening.

El Greco

Alfons Mucha 150

Today the very personal and interesting painter and decorative artist Alfons Mucha would have become 150 years old but as this is very rare, we celebrate his memory.
We had the pleasure visiting the museum displaying his art when being in Prague in 2008.
He didn't only paint and make decorative œuvres, he also sculptured and worked with other materials.

Lura Ögat /Tromp l'oeil

Once again we are perplex.

The poster was great, the subject was interesting, but the exhibition... less.
Or more.
This was the problem: there were far too many works, and not all of them were worth their place in the National Museum.
With less artworks the exhibition had been a curatorial success: Tight, clever, interesting.
With this third extra, it became a cake with too much sugar and too much mediocre chocolate; very difficult to eat.

Henric Aryee

Aurore and I were invited to a vernissage at the Drakens gallery in the Old Town in Stockholm tonight. Of course we went there.

Henric Aryee was the artist displaying some of his oeuvres - Aurore and Henric have worked together in a company for some time.
He has a substantial educational background from the USA among other countries.
In his works he uses different techniques even though his main interest lies in drawing.
In this exhibition we saw prints, oil and other techniques and it was really a very varied display of his art.
We were fascinated and so were many others. The vernissage was visited by many people and we enjoyed it very much!

Eklips - Konst i en mörk tid

The exhibition was rather uneven and I will above all remember the Belgian artist Michaël Borremans. His technique, his work on the light were simply astonishing.

Tiina and Antonio

Svenska (English below):

Idag är vi bjudna till Tiina och Antonio, vänner till mig som Aurore har träffat vid något tillfälle.

Tiina kommer från Finland och kom till Sverige för 7-8 år sedan för att läsa bl.a. statskunskap och freds-och konfliktforskning. Vi träffades i samband med ett annat boende. Antonio kommer från Syrien och de är gifta sedan ett par år tillbaka.

Aurore och jag arbetar dock först med våra projekt vid Filmhuset och därefter beger vi oss till bio Sture där Aurore skall sända några filmer från Stockholm till Göteborg och Malmö i samband med franska filmfestivalen.

Härefter åker vi ut till Enskede där Tiina och Antonio bor. Har aldrig varit i denna lägenhet då de har bott på ett par olika platser i Stockholm tidigare.
Träffar i samband med detta även Antonio' s mor som kommit hit från Syrien för att hälsa på.

Det blir en mycket trevlig kväll där vi talar om allt möjligt från jämförelser mellan utbildningar (Aurore's och Tiina's fr.a.) samt svårigheterna att som invandrad svensk få ett arbete i Sverige trots att man har en hög akademisk examen.

Antonio's mor är dessutom konstnär och vi får se exempel på hennes konst (återgiven här i bloggen).
Dels målar hon (olja, akryl och akvarell m.m.) dels är hon textilkonstnär med gobelängliknande arbeten. Mycket intressanta, vackra kreationer.
Ett av de konstverk vi får se ur hennes verkskatalog är en målning vilken man som köpare kan omvandla själv genom att den är gjord i mindre sektioner som är hopfogade. Detta gör att man som innehavare av detta konstverk kunde förändra det efter behag, ett intressant grepp som jag inte vet jag sett tidigare.

Modern är i Sverige för första gången och vi talar bl.a. om Sverige kontra Frankrike och Syrien på många olika plan. Då Tiina är vegetarian som jag - inte Antonio dock - jämför vi priser på grönsaker och det som hör vegetarisk diet till. Antonio's mor är förskräckt över priserna här i Sverige där ett kg. tomater kan kosta 40 kr/kg. Samma mängd kostar kanske i Syrien 3 kr/kg. Kostnadsläget är ett annat men skillnaden är ändå märkbar.

De skall nu se olika sevärdheter i Stockholm och senare skall de resa till Frankrike och Bordeaux där de skall hälsa på en släkting till Antonio och hans mor. De frågar Aurore vad det finns av sevärdheter i Bordeaux och Aurore berättar bl.a. om sina vinproducerande släktingar i S:t Emilion där de har en vinkällare om 7 ha. som vi vid tillfälle i samband med nästa resa till Frankrike skall besöka, Aurore och jag. Dessutom ger Aurore dem ett antal tips om andra sevärdheter.

Efter en trevlig kväll beger vi oss hem.....

Today we are invited to Tiina and Antonio, friends of mine whom Aurore has met once.

Tiina was born in Finland and came to Sweden seven or eight years ago in order to read Political Science and Peace- and Conflict research. We met as neihgbours when I lived in another part of Stockholm seven years ago. Antonio was born in Syria and he now lives and works in Sweden since many years. They were married two years ago.

Aurore and I spent some hours at The Swedish Film Institute before leaving to cinema Sture where Aurore is going to send some French films to Gothenburg and Malmoe in connection to the French Film Festival.

After this we go to Enskede (not Enschede in the Netherlands) where Tiina and Antonio lives. I have never visited them in this new flat as they have lived in other parts of Stockholm before.
At the same time we get to meet Antonio's mother who has come from Syria to visit them.

A very nice evening where we discuss all kinds of things, like comparing the educational systems and the problems for 'immigrants' to get a job in Sweden in spite of having high academic degrees. This has been a problem for Tiina as well as for Aurore.

Antonio's mother is an artist and we get to see some of her works this evening (displayed here on the blog). She is a painter (oil, acrylic and watercolour) and a textile artist with tapestry-like creations. They are all very interesting works.
One of the paintings, shown to us from an exhibition catalogue, is one where the buyer can change it according to 'taste'. This is made possible as the painting is made from small sections that are attached to each other but removable. As the proprietor of this work you can change it and hereby become a co-artist in a way.
As far as I can remember I have never seen something like that before but there are perhaps similar works.

Antonio's mother is in Sweden for the first time in her life and we compare Sweden, France and Syria on different levels. As Tiina is a vegetarian - like myself - we compared the prices for vegetables in Sweden, France and Syria. Antonio's mother was terrified when she saw the prices in Sweden where one kg of tomatoes cost 40 kr/kg (almost 5 €/6 $). The same amount tomatoes in Syria cost maybe 3 kr/kg. (3 eurocent/40 US cents). The costs are not equal in the two countries but the difference is however noticeable.

They are now going to look at some of the sights in Stockholm and later on continue to France and Bordeaux where they are going to visit a relative to Antonio and his mother.
They ask Aurore what there is to see in Bourdeaux and she - among other things - tell them about her wine producing relatives in S:t Emilion where they have a wine cellar of about 7 hectare, a wine cellar Aurore and I are going to visit when we go to France next time. Besides this Aurore inform them about other tourist attractions.

After a nice evening we return home....

Three tales, Steve Reich and Beryl Korot

Svenska (English below):

Efter lite av varje på förmiddagen, alldeles för obetydligt för att nämnas, begav vi oss ut, Aurore och jag, tog en kaffepaus på Folkkulturcentrum på Skeppsholmen.

Efter det fortsatte vi nästgårds till Moderna museet för en 'performance' med ett videoverk sammanställt av tonsättare och Polarpristagaren Steve Reich och konstnären Beryl Korot.

Detta videoverk med musik började de arbeta på 1996 och man beskriver det i informationen som en 'video dokumentär opera' där man fokuserar på den teknologiska utvecklingen av skilda slag samt riskerna med densamma under 1900-talet.

Man tar sin utgångspunkt i tre tillfällen i historien: Hindenburgkatastrofen då den kända zeppelinaren störtar och brinner upp i Lakehurst, New Jersey 1937. Denna händelse skall symbolisera den industriella epokens kollaps.
Nästa händelse som fungerar som katalysator för en idé är atomsprängningarna på Bikiniatollen 1947 vilka skall belysa atombombålderns start i människans destruktiva historia (sistnämnda min kommentar).
Tredje och sista exemplet är det genmanipulerade fåret Dolly som självfallet tar upp problemen med genmanipulering med djur (och växter).

Vad gäller alla dessa olika gestaltningar av olika skeden i den mänskliga utvecklingens historia - och då talar jag inte om utveckling i en nödvändigtvis positiv bemärkelse - kan självfallet valet av metafor diskuteras men den är kanske av underordnad betydelse.

Däremot finner jag att de här anförda exemplen kunde ha gestaltats långt mer intressant än som blev fallet.
Både Aurore och jag upplevde att kombinationen av alltför många mediala framställningsformer kolliderade: Bilder, musik, kommentarer och text bildade ett enligt mitt förmenande alldeles för disparat intryck.

Det var svårt att få ett helhetsgrepp om alla de separata delarna i denna performance.
I övrigt tycker jag mycket om Steve Reich som tonsättare och har hört en hel del av honom. Beryl Korot vet jag däremot med säkerhet inte att jag sett tidigare men det skall jag låta vara osagt.

English:

After this and that in the morning - all to insignificant to be mentioned - Aurore and I went out and stopped at 'Folkkulturcentrum' at Skeppsholmen to take a break with a cup of coffee.

Afterwards we continued to The Museum of Modern Art ('Moderna museet') for a 'performance' - a videowork made by composer Steve Reich (winner of the Polar Music Prize this year) and video artist Bery Korot.

This vide artwork with music they started to work on already in 1996 and it's described in the information text as a 'video documentary opera' where one focuses on the technological development of different kind during the 20th Century.

They use as a starting point three occations in history:
The Hindenburg catastrophy when the giant vessel crashed and burned up in Lakehurst, New Jersey in 1937. This event is supposed to sybolize the collapse of the industrial epoch.
The next event functioning as a catalyst for a idea is the atomic blasting at the Bikni atoll in 1947 illustrating the start of the atomic bomb era in the history of mankind.
The third and last example is the gene manipulated sheep Dolly and this is of course a comment on the problems with gene manipulation with animal (and plants).

Concerning all this different interpretations of different phases in the history of human development - and I hereby do not necessary mean development in a positive sense - could of course the choice of metaphores be discussed but this is perhaps a subordinate question.

However I found that this examples could have been interpreted in a far more interesting way.
Both Aurore and I felt that the combination of to many medial forms of description collided: Pictures, music, commentaries and text formed according to my opinion a to disparate impression.

It was difficult getting a general impression of all the separate parts in this performance.

Besides I am very fond of Steve Reich as a composer and have heard quite a deal of his music. Bery Korot on the other hand, I am not quite shure I have encountered before.

The Missing Book of Spurs

Till slut kommer Aurore och jag ut till Tensta konsthall och denna gång t.o.m. då den är öppen.
Vi hade problem med detta eftersom informationen var undermålig och den information som gavs på hemsidan stämde inte med den som gavs på telefonen.

Detta gjorde att vi vid ett tillfälle kom ut då det var stängt trots att det var öppet! Nåväl, det kallas bristande organisationsförmåga eller slapphet.

Då man kommer in i stora utställningshallen möts man av ett leopardmönster på väggar, tak och golv.

I ett hörn står en liten stuga, det nybyggda så kallade 'Lilla huset på prärien' (alluderande på den sliskigt romantiska serien med samma namn som vi på 70-talet och senare kunde se i Sverige om en familj som lever på prärien, en riktigt amerikansk helyllefamilj som alltid 'gör rätt'. I de ledande rollerna kunde vi finna bl.a. Michael Landon och Melissa Gilbert).

I detta lilla hus visas en video kallad 'Flag Girls' i 'Next Door' av konstnären Jen DeNike, där sex eller sju kvinnor draperade med USA:s flagga sakta men säkert nynnandes USA:s nationalsång s.a.s. 'avkläder sig flaggan' tills de nakna försvinner ut i bildkanten. Endast en blir kvar. Verket är menat att behandla relationen till amerikansk identitet med utgångspunkt i den amerikanska flaggan.

Om detta gjorde mig klokare eller mer insatt i den amerikanska identitetens olika aspekter kan jag inte säga.

I stugan fanns också en monter med hopvikta amerikanska flaggor som påminde om det arrangemang man ser kring döda amerikanska soldater som kommer hem i kistor draperade med 'The Stars and Stripes'. Montern fungerade också som en kista.

'The missing Book of Spurs' är ett antal teckningar av konstnären Marianne Vitale (Vitale's hemsida), teckningar hon gjort det senaste decenniet. Dessa är i vissa fall relativt abstrakta i vissa fall mer eller mindre föreställande med olikartade former som ger upphov till associationer till existerande såväl som 'icke existerande' eller icke kända organismer eller livsformer.

Dark Rainbow Shop är en konstbutik som både fungerar som utställningsyta och marknad för försäljning av konsten.

Ett av de mer intressanta inslagen där var Vivianne Edorson's stickade artefakter. Hon skapar nästan hela hem med lampor, stolar, bord, ljusstakar och allt annat som kan finnas i ett hem men där av annat matieral än här. Här är allt stickat. Ett imponerande arbete tycker jag som amatör. Måste ha åtgått lång tid till att realisera.
I det stora hela dock var det en mycket liten uställning där de flesta verken inte kändes särskilt innovativa eller med större mått av fördjupning innehållsmässigt, känslomässigt eller intellektuellt.

English:

At last Aurore and i arrive at Tensta art gallery ('Tensta konsthall') and this time it was open! We had some problems earlier as the information was deficient, combined with the fact that the information on the homepage did not correspond with the information on the answering machine when calling them.

When entering the big exhibition hall we are met by big leopard patterns on walls, roof and floor.

In a corner there was a small cabin called 'The little house on the prairie' (alluding to a sickly-sweet American tv-series with the same name sent in the mid 70's in Sweden about a family living in a small house on the prairie with their children, a reliable and 'righteous' family always doing the 'right' thing. In the leading rôles we could see Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert among others).

In this small house we could see a video called 'Flag Girls' in 'Next Door' by artist Jen Denike, in which seven women draped in the American flag, slowly undresses the flag showing their naked bodies, while singing the American national anthem. They all disappear out from the picture, all but one.

This work is meant to discuss the relation to American identity with the flag as a starting point. If this made me any wiser or more initiated when it comes to American identity and it's different aspects I cannot say.

In the cabin there where also a display case with folded American flags reminding about the arrangement you see around the the coffins with dead American soldiers where 'The Stars and Stripes' is used as drapery. The display case also functioned as a representing a coffin.

'The Missing Book of Spurs' is a number of drawings by artist Marianne Vitale, drawings she has made the last decade. These drawings are in some cases relatively abstract in other cases more or less depictive with different forms that give rise to associations to existing as well as 'non-existing' or not none organisms and life forms.

Dark Rainbow Shop is an art shop that both functions as an exhibiting surface and a market for selling art.

One of the more interesting elements was Vivianne Edorson and her knitted artifacts. She creates almost total homes with lamps, chairs, tables, candlesticks and everything else existing in a home but where they are made out of other material. Here everything is knitted. It's an impressing piece of work I think and it must have taken quite a long time to realize.

At a whole though a very small exhibition where most of the works did not appear particularly innovative or displaying any depth when it came to the content, neither emotionally nor intellectually.
