Idag börjar Franska filmfestivalen på bio Sture - inofficiellt - och det är nu nionde året i rad som detta evenemang går av stapeln. Förutom amerikansk, brittisk samt viss asiatisk film, tror jag Frankrike tillhör de mer populära filmländerna bland svenskarna.
Kvällen börjar med mingel tillsammans med sponsorer och det bjuds på wraps, både med kött och vegetariskt. Sistnämnda för oss som är kloka och inte vill tära på naturresurserna mer än nödvändigt. Vin till detta.
Gott och trevligt samt många besökare/minglare.
Aurore och jag träffar bl.a. Olivier Guerpillon som är filmproducent och varit med att arrangera detta evenemang under de nio år festivalen pågått, en person Aurore känner sedan tidigare och som jag själv träffat vid ett flertal tillfällen i samband med detta arrangemang.
Jag talar själv med Joseph Redéen, den som ansvarar för volontärerna tilsammans med bl.a. Guerpillon och Jonas Berglund.
Aurore arbetar under festivalen som filmkoordinator och skall bl.a. se till att hitta filmer/filmkopior på olika platser runt om i världen där de visas samt se till att de kommer på plats i tid och att alla arrangemang kring detta sköts korrekt.
Dessutom är hon ansvarig för den ungdomsjury från Franska skolan som medverkar och som har till uppgift att välja ut den eller de filmer de anser vara bäst.
Själv har jag anmält mig som volontär till denna filmfestival och skall deltaga kvällarna 5, 7, 8, 17, 25:e och 31 maj. Arbetet inkluderar presentation av filmer, utdelande av röstblanketter, 'biljettrivare', informatör samt allmän trivselhöjare.
Efter avslutat mingel visas så den film som kommer gå som temafilm under festivalen, nämligen 'La tourneuse de pages' av Denis Dercourt, en film som fått den svenska titeln 'En studie i hämnd' trots att titeln på svenska betyder 'Bladvänderskan', 'Den som vänder blad'.
Den som ansvarar för den svenska titeln kan nog tänkas vilja alludera på Alfred Hitchcocks 'Studie i brott' ('Vertigo').
Denna psykologiska thriller är mycket skickligt uppbyggd. Filmen tar sin början med berättelsen om en ung flicka - Mélanie - som under lång tid tränat för att i samband med en musiktävling för unga, spela upp ett pianostycke för en jury. Hon distraheras av att en av jurymedlemmarna, konsertpianisten Ariane Fouchécourt - (Catherine Frot) - låter en beundrare komma in under uppspelningen för att få en autograf, något som förstör hela Mélanies audition.
Detta gör att hon dels inte går vidare dels breslutar sig för att ge upp musiken helt och hållet.
Flera år senare söker hon en tjänst vid en advokatbyrå. Det visar sig att byråns stjärnadvokat och chef tillika är make till konsertpianisten Fouchécourt och Mélanie får nu tillfälle att via ett extraarbete hos familjen komma sin förhatliga pianist nära inpå livet. Mélanie planerar nu för sin hämnd som är listigt uttänkt och till slut får konsekvenser för hela familjen.
En riktigt sevärd film, där inte endast Frot gör en fin insats i rollen som jurymedlemmen tillika konsertpianisten utan även den unga skådespelerskan Déborah François i rollen som Mélanie Prouvost den hämdlystna unga kvinnan, gör en fantastisk interpretation av denna iskallt beräknande person på jakt efter satisfaktion.
En bra början på denna filmfestival.

The French Film Festival (pdf document in Swedish here) starts - inofficially - at Cinema Sture today and this is the ninth year in a row that this event takes place here in Stockholm. Besides American, Brittish and some Asian films I think French film is among the most popular ones among the Swedish film-audience.
The evening starts off with 'mingle' together with sponsors and other people in charge of this event. We are offered wraps, both with meat and vegetarian ones. Th elatter for those among us being 'wise' enough not to drain out our natural resources more than necessary. Wine is served of course. Nice arrangements and a lot of people is attending this first evening.
Aurore and I, among others, meet Olivier Guerpillon a film producer and one of the persons having been responsible for this film festival since it started nine years ago. Aurore knows him since long and I have met him several times in connection to this event.
I also talk to Joseph Redéen who in cooperation with Guerpillon and Jonas Berglund is responsible for the volunteers.
During the film festival Aurore works as a film coordinator and that means that she has to find the film copies, being 'scattered' around the globe, see to that they arrive in time to the festival and make sure every arrangement around this is handled correctly. She is also responsible for the 'youth jury' from the French School participating in this film festival in order to choose the film they regard being the best.
I myself is registered as a volunteer and particpates the following evenings: 5, 7, 8, 17, 25th and 31 of May. The work includes introduding the movies, informing the visitors, see to that people participate in the voting process taking place after each and every screening, tear tickets and as far as possible try to be as positive and nice as I can.
After 'mingle' they show the film that is supposed to function as at thematic film during the festival, namely 'La tourneuse de pages' by Denis Dercourt.
This psychological thriller is very competent structured. The film starts with us meeting a young girl - Mélanie - who during many years have been practicing piano and now have been concentrating her efforts in order to participate in a competition with young musicians. She is going to perform a piano piece in front of the jury but is distracted when an admirer enters the room to get an autograph from the concert pianist Ariane Foucehécourt (Catherine Frot). This totally destroys Mélanies audition. She now decides to quit playing piano and gives up the music.
Many years later she looks for a job at a law firm. The lawyer and head of the firm happens to be the husband of the concert pianist Fouchécourt. Mélaine now sees her chance through working extra in the family and thereby getting close to the person she hates so much.
Her plans to revenge her misfortune now takes form and cunningly she goes through with it, leading to consequences for the entire family.
A film worth seeing with a magnificent acting not only from Catherine Frot's side but also the young actress Déborah François in the rôle as Mélanie. She is cold and calculating in a quiet way in her hunt for satisfaction.
A good start to this festival.
