It's a situation comedy about a man called Poppe (Leif Juster), a manager of a hotel who gets totally confused by the fact that two different guests look exactly alike and of course he mixes them up.
The daughter - Ruth (Unni Bernhoft) - of the director Granberg (Einar Sissener) of the hotel, disguise herself into a piccolo in order to find out if the hotel is run properly, something her father has his doubts about.
She falls in love with Poppe and this leads to that she only is able to see his good sides and not his totally confused and whimsy ones.The two men being mixed up are actor Teddy Winter and an ornithologist (both being actor Frank Robert).
In the end everything is sorted up but until then the situations in the hotel gets more and more absurd and not only Poppe is being confused but the confusion is contagious.
This film could have become very entertaining and there are some scenes that are quite good and really humorous but on the whole it's a film that feels very dated and the humour is so old fashioned, the acting so exaggerated, that it destroys the less bad parts in the film.
I can't understand who this film could has become so popular.
It was made in 1957 but I have seen many films from that epoch and earlier, where the jokes still bear but in this film, they don't.
It's a pitty as it, in spite of everything, possess some charm.
If you keep your eyes open you will just at the beginning of the film find a very young (19 years old) Liv Ullman in a small role as a skier, talking with Poppe. It's her feature film debut.
