Ondskan/Evil

This is a film made as an adaptation of the book "Ondskan" by journalist and writer Jan Guillou.

The book (and film) tells the story about his youth when he came to a boarding school where the rules where set by the students, the teachers looking away as it served their purposes.
Guillou's alter ego in the film - Erik Ponti (Andreas Wilson) - is sent to the school as a result of his step father's harsness aginst him and his own understandable unwillingness to follow the demands of a man who beats him up over and over again, with no other obvious reason than that it pleases him.
His rebellious sides doesn't become less prominent when confronting a rigid system where bullying is a natural part in "the education".
As the "master mind" behind everything we see Gustaf Skarsgård in the role as Otto Silverhielm, trying to subdue the newcomer, in cooperation with his close friends.
They do not succeed even if they use extreme methods.

Some of Guillou's former friends at the school, objected to the vision of the school when, not least the film was released. They meant that it was an exaggerated description of the life at this particular boarding school. Unfortunately most stories aobut boarding schools, confirm the hazing of students and I would think that the book and film tells a more true story than most people want to confess. This not least as many of the most powerful people in leading positions in society has been students at these kind of schools and are unwilling to be exposed as a gang of psychopaths and sadists - even though they have used the same methods when reaching the top in society.

Guillou is in Sweden also known as a "digging" journalist and came to prominence in connection to the so called "IB affair" during the 1970's revealing a hidden "spy organization" within the Social Democratic Party, having as one of its targets to control the sympahizers of the left wing parties in Sweden. A sort of McCarthyism that had started a couple of decades before the revelation.
It lead to Guillou being imprisoned even though the data he revealed were correct.
He later on continued to write books about the Swedish agent "Hamilton", books also becoming films, in one of them starring Gustaf Skarsgård's father Stellan Skarsgård.
He has also written books about the medieval cavalier "Arn", made into the most expensive films in the history of Swedish film a couple of years ago.
